Troy Kennedy played left wing for the Central Texas Stampede in their inaugural 1996–97 season, appearing in all 64 regular-season games. He was one of the more productive players on a squad that finished 35-27-2 and reached the first President's Cup Final in WPHL history. Kennedy contributed 16 goals and 50 assists for 66 points — a strong offensive total for a first-year league — while adding 47 PIM. He was one of eight Stampede players selected to represent the East in the WPHL's inaugural All-Star game. Away from the rink, Kennedy took part in a Drug-Free Assembly at Lakewood Elementary School, speaking to students alongside his son Tyson, a first grader at the school.
