Troy Frederick carved his place into hockey history in the Stampede's very first moment. On October 16, 1996, just 22 seconds into the opening game against the Waco Wizards — and into the WPHL's inaugural contest — the left wing scored to give the Stampede the first goal in franchise and league history. Central Texas won that night 5-4 in front of 5,044 fans at the Bell County Expo Center.
Frederick was one of eight Stampede players named to the East squad for the WPHL's first All-Star game, where he scored three goals against rival goaltender Tony Martino in the shootout skills competition. He finished his lone Stampede season — the club's entire inaugural 1996-97 campaign — with 35 goals, 25 assists, 60 points, and 92 penalty minutes across all 64 games. He also scored in the playoff run that took Central Texas to the inaugural President's Cup Final.
