Ron Newhook spent two seasons as a right wing for the Central Texas Stampede, cementing himself as the most productive skater in franchise history. In 1999-2000 he posted 35 goals and 76 assists for 111 points in 70 games — enough to lead the entire WPHL and earn the league's Most Valuable Player award at age 22. That season the Stampede went 50-17-3, won the Central Division title, and set the best regular-season record in league history, and Newhook's point total sat at the center of it all.
He returned for the team's final, abbreviated 2000-2001 season, adding 10 goals and 31 assists in 38 games before the franchise folded in January 2001 and he was transferred to Amarillo. Across 108 career games in a Stampede sweater he finished with 45 goals, 107 assists, and 152 points. Coach Todd Lalonde, who had negotiated to bring him back before that last season, left little doubt about his regard for the winger.
