Peter Zurba spent four seasons as a left wing for the Central Texas Stampede, appearing in 190 games and finishing his time in Belton with 65 goals, 74 assists, and 1,077 penalty minutes — the last figure making him one of the most penalized players in franchise history.
Zurba was part of the inaugural 1996-97 roster that helped the Stampede reach the first President's Cup Final in WPHL history, collecting 291 penalty minutes alongside 17 points in 44 games. He returned for the 1997-98 campaign under new coach Lee Norwood and took a step forward offensively, posting 41 points and 311 PIM in 62 games. He sat out the 1998-99 season but came back for what became the best year in franchise history: the 1999-2000 Stampede went 50-17-3 and won the Central Division title, and Zurba had his strongest individual season with 22 goals, 31 assists, and 53 points in 54 games, including a power-play game-winner against Fort Worth in November that helped protect the Stampede's division lead. That season also brought a two-game suspension after he received his fifth game misconduct. He finished his Stampede career with 28 points in 30 games during the truncated 2000-01 season before the franchise folded in January 2001.
