Jason Carey served as a goaltender for the Central Texas Stampede across two seasons, posting a combined 46-21-8 record with six shutouts over 82 appearances. He arrived for the 1998-99 campaign under first-year head coach Glen Williamson, finishing the year 22-12-8 with four shutouts and a .907 save percentage. A mid-season stretch that year highlighted his steadiness: after the All-Star break he went 5-0-1 with a 1.83 goals-against average, stopping 205 of 216 shots for a .949 save percentage over six games.
Carey re-signed ahead of the 1999-2000 season and was one of the first six returning players to commit to the roster. That team, coached by Todd Lalonde, finished 50-17-3 with the best record in the WPHL. Carey went 24-9-0 with a 2.88 GAA and a .913 save percentage, and when the league announced its postseason awards he was named a finalist for Most Outstanding Goaltender, the award ultimately won by teammate Matt Barnes.
