Don McGrath was a defenseman who played two seasons for the Central Texas Stampede, appearing in 93 games from 1996 to 1998. In 1996–97, the Stampede's inaugural year, McGrath posted 11 points and 141 penalty minutes in 46 games. The following season he added 12 points in 47 games while accumulating 185 penalty minutes, contributing to a roster that pursued a faster, more physical style under new coach Lee Norwood.
